Privacy Policy

This website is a personal blog run by Alexis CONIA, who is responsible for the processing of personal data described below. This page explains what data is collected when you visit it, why, and what your rights are.

No cookies, no tracking

This website sets no cookies and loads no third-party script: no advertising, no social media widgets. The fonts are served by the site itself. The audience measurement below is part of the site’s own code and stores nothing in your browser. That is why there is no consent banner.

Audience measurement

To know which pages are read and where readers come from, the site uses PostHog (opens in a new tab), on its European cloud (servers in Frankfurt), in its cookieless mode:

  • What is sent: when you open a page, your browser sends the page address, the page you came from (the referrer), your browser, operating system, device type and screen size, the time spent on the page, and the page’s loading speed (Web Vitals).
  • What is not used: no cookie, no local or session storage, no identifier kept in your browser. Clicks, mouse movements and what you type are not recorded, and there is no session recording.
  • How visits are counted: PostHog counts visitors with a privacy-preserving fingerprint calculated on its servers. In this mode, PostHog removes your IP address from the page view as it receives it, before any processing: no location is derived from it.
  • How long: PostHog keeps these page views for one year (the period of its free plan), then deletes them.
  • Do Not Track: if your browser sends the Do Not Track signal, nothing is sent.

PostHog acts as a processor. See the PostHog privacy policy (opens in a new tab).

What stays in your browser

A few features remember a choice in your browser’s storage. This data stays on your device, is never sent to the site or to anyone else, and you can delete it at any time by clearing the site data in your browser.

  • Theme: whether you chose the light or the dark theme with the theme button (local storage).
  • Checklists: the items you ticked in a checklist of a post, so you find them again (local storage).
  • Fries: how many fries you gave to each post, up to 10 (local storage).
  • 21 October: that you closed the small banner shown on that day, for the year (local storage).
  • Reading wall: that you closed the brick wall shown on long posts, for this visit (session storage, erased when you close the tab).
  • Console message: that the message for developers was shown once in this visit (session storage).

The fries counter

At the end of each post, the fries button counts how many readers liked it. When you give a fry, your browser sends the post’s name to the site’s server (an Azure Function). To limit each reader to 10 fries per post and per day, the server computes a fingerprint from your IP address, the day, the post and a secret value. This fingerprint cannot be turned back into your IP address, the IP address itself is never stored, and the fingerprint is deleted after two days. Only the total number of fries per post is kept.

The e-mail address button

On the About page, the « Show the address » button asks the site’s server for the contact address when you click it. To limit abuse to 10 requests per hour, the server keeps a fingerprint of your IP address and the hour in memory only, for that hour. Nothing is stored.

Hosting

This website and its server functions are hosted on Microsoft Azure. As with any web server, the hosting infrastructure may process technical data such as your IP address, the requested URL and your browser’s user agent, to deliver the pages and keep the service secure.

To detect errors and outages, the web server’s logs (requested address, response code, IP address, browser) are kept for 30 days in Azure Monitor, then deleted. An automated test also opens the home page every 15 minutes to check that the site answers.

Microsoft acts as a processor for this hosting. See the Microsoft Privacy Statement (opens in a new tab) for more information.

This website links to external services (LinkedIn, GitHub, X, Instagram, YouTube, Sessionize, Microsoft MVP and others). They open in a new tab, and nothing is loaded from these services until you click a link; once you do, their own privacy policies apply. The share buttons are plain links as well.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to access, rectify and erase your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to data portability. As the data described above does not identify you directly, it may not be possible to link it to you.

To exercise these rights or for any question about this policy, contact me via LinkedIn (opens in a new tab).

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, such as the CNIL (opens in a new tab) in France.
